How to backup your WordPress website on GoDaddy

Step 1. Backup your MySQL database

Backup your WordPress database on the MySQL database.

Step 2. Backup your files

Backup your files via FTP. Make sure to back up your MySQL database backup file in /_db_backups folder, too.

Make sure to compress all the files into a single archive file before transferring via FTP.

tar -zcvf godaddy_wp_bk.tar.gz html/

Step 3. Practice restoring

Run a backup and try restoring before you have important contents on your WordPress website to make sure you can successfully restore.

tar -zxvf godaddy_wp_bk.tar.gz

Step 4. Create backup of the backup

You might want to have a backup of the backup in case something happens to your original backup files.
